The seventh issue of the art magazine A Shade Colder, titled The Many Faces of You was launched at the end of April. This is also the third print issue of the magazine.
The seventh issue of A Shade Colder takes a closer look at our many faces, around and within. The face is a marker of identity, supposedly one that helps others to recognise us throughout our lives, yet a face is subject to considerable change throughout a person’s life, and we all wear several. For better or worse, some of our faces are only revealed in private, while others are crafted for various public encounters.
The new issue includes contributions by writers and artists from Estonia, USA, Germany, Latvia and Ukraine: Cecilia Alemani, Johanna Hedva, Lilian Hiob, Lucy Ivanova, Kaarin Kivirähk, Triin Reidla, Anti Saar, Mētra Saberova, Pire Sova, Elnara Taidre. The cover of the newest issue features Anu Vahtra’s photograph of Edith Karlson’s project Hora lupi, representing Estonian at the 60th Venice Biennale.
The new issue is available on the magazine’s web shop and at a variety of stockists both in Estonia and internationally. Half of the proceeds of the sales of the first issue will be donated to the Ukrainian Emergency Art Fund.
A Shade Colder Magazine aims to draw connections between art in Estonia and elsewhere in the world by highlighting shared stories, provide deeper analysis and also capture more short-lived occurrences. A Shade Colder strives to be a useful tool for working within and introducing this part of Europe internationally. Together with a variety of artists, writers, curators, designers, performers, architects and other creative minds, based both in Estonia and abroad, it aims to critically rethink how to speak about Estonian art on the local and international level.
The magazine is edited by Keiu Krikmann and Kaarin Kivirähk. The rest of the CCA’s team, Marika Agu, Maria Arusoo and Sten Ojavee serve as the editorial board of the magazine. The graphic design is created by Jojo&me (Johanna Ruukholm and Martina Gofman).
The magazine is published by the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Art and funded by the Estonian Ministry of Culture as well as private sponsors.
