Internation Art Exhibition – la biennale di Venezia or the Venice Biennale is the oldest international art event in the world and was first organised in 1895. Estonia has participated with our own exposition since 1997.
Estonian Centre for Contemporary Arts has been the official organiser of the Estonian pavilion since 1999 and this has become one of our most important and far-reaching projects. The exhibition for the Estonian pavilion is selected through an open call and the winner is decided by an international jury.
Estonia doesn’t have a special building for the pavilion and therefore throughout the years the exhibitions have been located in various places across Venice. In 2022, the Estonian Pavilion will be located in the historical Rietveld Pavilion, in the heart of Giardini.
Estonian participation at the Venice Biennale is supported by the Ministry of Culture.
