About the host institution

Aine Art Museum

Aine Art Museum is a contemporary and modern art museum founded in 1986 and is located exactly on the border between Finland and Sweden. In northern Finland, the substantial art collection of Tornio art collectors Eila and Veli Aine proved to be an invaluable gift to the country’s northern region. Aine Art Museum will be honoring this heritage throughout the museum’s 40th anniversary year of 2026. The Everyone’s Birthdays event programme will celebrate the museum’s 40-year history by bringing art, culture and their creators to both the museum and locations throughout the twin cities of Tornio and Haparanda. Everyone’s Birthdays invites everyone to celebrate the museum’s anniversary year and Oulu2026 – the city of Oulu’s year as a European Capital of Culture – together.

About the programme

The internship programme is part of the project Borderland Poetics: Rewilding Tongues, a 3-year-long cooperation project between the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Art (Tallinn, Estonia), Aine Art Museum (Tornio, Finland), Icelandic Art Center (Reykjavik, Iceland) and Mostyn (Llandudno, Wales). The aim of the project is to connect cultural professionals based in Wales and in the Baltic-Nordic region and create paid internship opportunities for emerging cultural professionals. Previous internships have taken place in collaboration with the Tallinn Print Triennial in Estonia and the Sequences Art Festival in Iceland.

The title of the project is a reference to an exhibition, “Border Poetics”, curated by the Estonian curator Eha Komissarov in 2018.

The project is supported by the Nordic Culture Point.
