The catalogue accompanies “Interstanding 2”, a series of art events, created in collaboration between Soros Center for Contemporary Arts, Estonia; Estonian Academy of Arts and international partners. The event series centred on the development of interactive media art and possible artistic strategies within that context. The fast commercialisation of media space, institutional corruption, desire to establish a monopoly and an increasing number of profit-driven or forbidden zones leads to questions about the openness of media space, its ethics in the conditions of social self-regulation and individual freedom to choose alternative strategies of media participation.

The book opens with an introduction by the exhibition’s curator Ando Keskküla. The texts are based on conference presentations and authored by Eric Kluitenberg, Erkki Huhtamo, Peter Lamborn Wilson, Mart Raukas, David Garcia, Drazen Pantić, Paul Garrin, Lisa Haskel, Jeff Taylor, Dmitri Mihhailov.

Introductions to the video screenings are written by Janka Vukmir, Barbara Borčić, Sofiya Asoyeva, Biljana Tomić, Oleg Kulik, Ryszard Kluszczynski, Rasa Smite, Raitis Smits.
